New Watches: Glycine Brightens Up Everyday Life

After presenting a number of elite pieces at Baselworld 2005, Glycine is now turning its attention to high quality everyday watches - novelties that prove that the accessories of day-to-day life do not have to be boring...

COMBAT Automatic for Trendsetters
While the dial design and the functionality of this new watch clearly show that it belongs to the COMBAT family, the new COMBAT Automatic by Glycine Watch SA has both a futuristic and a retro appearance, as if watch and strap were the same piece. The high-tech synthetic strap gives the appearance of being joined without a seam to the case - a design that allows this 44 mm diameter watch to snugly fit on any wrist. The watch is available either with a red or green dégradé or with a black dial. The case is available in high-grade steel with satin-finish or with a black PVD coating. The fashion conscious among us who are looking for that unique appearance will be especially drawn to this watch, all the more so on account of its cost effectiveness, where this quality high-grade-steel, waterproof up to 50 metres watch is available at around CHF 650. "That's so typical of COMBAT", says Katherina Brechbühler, CEO and Designer at Glycine Watch SA, "thanks to its robustness, this is one of our most successful lines."

INCURSORE with Enhanced Ergonomics
The INCURSORE watch line was Glycine's first to feature a large diameter and inspired the trend towards oversize wristwatches. Since its launch almost eight years ago this watch has also been one of Glycine's best sellers. Katherina Brechbühler has now enhanced the case's form and increased its curvature with, as she explains, "a recasting designed to make the 44 millimetre case fit even better on the arm". The new INCURSORE 44 Automatic features a numbered steel case; it is waterproof up to 100 metres and is available with a leather strap or a steel bracelet. The watch comes with a strap tool, a replacement strap and a wooden case and costs around CHF 700 to CHF 800, depending on the strap.

AIRMAN Vintage V Limited: 50s Design Replete
with state-of-the art Technology

The appearance of the AIRMAN Vintage V 24-hour watch harkens back to the original pilot watches of the 50s - for instance, its rotating bezel, its hands, its trapezoidal date display with red numerals, and its reversed 24-hour imprint with the 12 on top - a genuine rarity. The watch's dial is dégradé: the diurnal zone is on top and bright, and the nocturnal zone is on bottom and dark. So much for the subject of replicas... The technology behind this watch is another matter altogether. It is entirely in keeping with state-of-the-art developments and features a domed sapphire crystal and an ETA movement (2893-2). Furthermore, the watch is waterproof up to 200 metres and also features a glass base and a khaki-coloured rubber strap. The AIRMAN Vintage V has a diameter of 36 mm and costs around CHF 1,700. Given that the watch has been produced in a limited edition of only 150 pieces, collectors are advised to hurry.
